“Are you my wife?”, Dino asked Safaa.
She glared at him. Being that this was a big party in a dance hall, and she had only met him a couple of times in her life, she thought it an odd question.
“Excuse me?” Safaa asked.
“I’m not trying to be forward, I just saw you and I like how you are dressed, and I wanted to know if you were my future wife,” Dino stated again, smiling like a Cheshire Cat. She had a floor length flower dress on.
“If that is your pick-up line, it’s kind of weak, and you were already tryin’ to holler at a friend of mine a few years ago,” Safaa exclaimed. She scurried upstairs away from him, and started dancing by herself to the loud syncopated music banging through the speakers.
Dino walked around the packed room, searching for, in his mind, his love. He eventually made his way toward the front of the club, next to the stage. He was about to rap a song.
Coincidentally, Safaa made her way toward the stage, grabbed the microphone, and belted out her song.
After her performance, Safaa sat at a red table, near the stage, and started drinking a cranberry juice cocktail.
Dino was staring at her from across the room at this point. He didn’t want to come off like a weirdo, but he wanted to get her phone number. He had been seeing a couple of women, but they were not fulfilling to his soul. He wanted someone that would bring out the best in him. Safaa seemed liked the one. She was very popular, and was considered a good catch. He knew he needed some stability in his life, and he had loved her from afar for several years.
Safaa saw Dino staring at her, while she was sipping her drink. She knew a bit about him. He had a song come out on the pop charts a few years back. He had a scandalous reputation. He had been on heavy drugs, and had been with a goo-gog of women. She had never thought to look at him in a romantic sense. They were from two different worlds.
Dino came to Safaa’s table.
“Look, I don’t have anything to lose by asking if we can stay in contact, right? I mean, I just feel like we need to get to know each other. I can’t explain it. You’re beautiful, inside an out, and I need you in my life”, Dino explained.
“I have a man already, what about that part?” Safaa said, blushing.
“No diss’ to your man, but I think I’m better man for you”, Dino smiled, and pulled out his smart phone. “What is your number?”
Safaa punched her number into his phone.
She sipped the last of her melted ice drink, stood up and said,
“Let’s see what you’re talking about. I may just pull your card.”
Dino smiled, and declared, “this is bigger than us. It’s fate. “
They held hands and slowly walked downstairs together, with an unknown future in front of them.
